Uganda and Her Best Performances at the Commonwealth Games: Boxers and Track Athletes in the 1970’s

It was at the Region of Countries Rounds of 1970 and 1974, that were held in the city Edinburgh in Scotland and in Christchurch in New Zealand separately, that Uganda’s rivals were generally triumphant at these quadrennial occasions.

In 1970, Uganda’s presentation in boxing was the most elevating with Uganda winning three gold awards (James Odwori, Mohamed Muruli, and Benson Masanda) and two silver decorations (Leo Rwabwogo and Deogratias Musoke). Different decorations won for Uganda were on the track- – William Koskei’s silver award in the 400 meters-obstacles, and Judith Ayaa’s bronze award in the ladies’ 400 meters. Uganda performed similarly well at the Republic Rounds of 1970.
